Where should one use perfume a young woman asked? Wherever one wants to be kissed…..Coco Chanel.
Perfumes are formulated with different ingredients / base notes from roses to Vanilla to cotton etc. They also come in different packaging and price point. There are thousands of them and more are being released into the market everyday.
Are perfumes all about how much you paid for them or what you know on how to make your perfume last longer when you wear them? Here’s a few ways to make your perfume last longer…..
1, Apply Immediately After Shower
When it comes to perfumes, one of the easiest ways to make your perfume last longer is for you to apply your perfume when your pores are opened. HOW? Use your perfume immediately after you finish taking your shower. Your opened pores will absorb the perfume before they close up which will make your perfume last longer. Never store your perfume in the bathroom though…….
2, Moisturise Your Skin
Another way to allow your perfume last longer is to moisturise your skin very well. After moisturising the skin, apply your perfume and your perfume will last longer. Moisturisers help soak up perfume which will be make it last longer. To achieve best results, apply moisturiser where you want to wear your perfume.
3, Do Not Rub
When I didn’t know better, I did this too. A lot of us apply our perfumes on our pulse points (both wrists) and then rub together. When you do this, you break up your perfume which will make the scent fade quicker. Instead just apply your scent of choice and do not rub.
4, Apply on Pulse Points
Apply on both wrists, a dab behind both ears and along the throat. This will make your perfume last longer. All day in fact without the need to reapply. My tested and trusted method. Doesn’t feel nice when someone hugs you and they say you smell nice?
5, Choose the Right Scent
One of the most important factor to consider when buying or choosing your perfume is the formulation of your perfume. Choose one with ingredients or base notes that are strong. Base notes are long lasting and dramatic ingredients in your perfumes. Vanilla, Pine and Musk are some of the ones that are known to be strong and last really long.
6, Wear on Your Hair
A long time ago, I shared in one of my monthly favourite videos that my husband likes to smell my hair. He likes that because he thinks it is very intimate. I am always happy when he does so no complain. And because of that I wear perfume on my hair aside ensuring that my hair is clean and fresh. Not sure how to keep your weave, wigs and hair clean, check HERE
To wear your perfume on your hair, you don’t spray directly. Spray your perfume on your hair brush and then use the brush to brush your hair. If you wear braids, spray it on your palm and rub in on your hair. This makes your perfume last longer. You smell it on you all day.
7, Wear First, Then Dress Up
Body heat activate the smell of your fragrance or scents. Apply your perfume first before dressing up so your body heat can warm up your perfume which will make the smell very well activated. I wear my perfume immediately after wearing my bra and then I dress up. My current favourite is the one given to me by my dear friend, Kike. It is the Burberry Brit Rthym, it smells so delicious. Will review soon!
8, Layer Up
If you’ve ever bought any perfume gift set, you will notice they come with body wash, moisturiser and then the perfume. The reason why they do that is for you to layer up. For perfumes, when you wash with the body wash of your selection, follow with your moisturiser or body lotion and then wear your perfume. Those simple steps will make your perfume last longer.
9, Store Correctly
Perfumes can lose its smell or go bad if not stored correctly. Ensure to always keep your perfume in a reasonably cool place so they can retain their smell. Also do not store your perfume by heat or in directly sunlight, this will ruin the potency of the ingredients in your perfume. Also never store your perfume in the bathroom, humid hair can infiltrate the bottle of your perfume. you can store your perfume in the fridge if you can; keeps the smell intact.
10, Spray from a Distance
You may or may not have noticed that when you buy suede sprays, they write on the container that you should spray at least 6 inches from the surface you want to use it; this is because it works more effectively when sprayed from a far. Same is applicable to perfumes. Don’t Spray directly on the skin, spray about 4-6 inches on the spot you want to wear the perfume. You will get better result like that because it settles subtle on your skin.
Those are some of my tips and tricks for making perfume last longer. Do you know any other tricks? Please share them with me us, sharing is caring.

I find some of the body washes and lotions can irritate my eczema, so I use no scent cream and then spritz my perfume
