One of the character or natural properties of leather is that they stretch. The more you use your leather goods, the more stretch they will experience.
Take a moment to recollect if you have ever bought a new pair of leather shoes. When you wore them for the first time, they felt a little tight or very well fitted. The more you wore them, the more comfortable they became right? What you will notice as you continue to wear your shoes is that they will eventually conform to your feet.
The last time I shared TIPS about choosing the perfect leather jacket, one of my tips was that you should ensure to choose your actual size; one that is not big on you or one that fit perfectly. If you missed the article, check here.
When I first got the jacket in the picture above, it fits like it was tight, It wasn’t though. If you take a look at the sleeve of the jacket in the picture below, you will notice that the sleeves were pushed up and they also looked creased. The reason why I could push the sleeves up easily is because the leather jacket is now softening up and stretching. I wasn’t able to do so when I first got it because it hasn’t experienced any kinds of stretch then.
What Causes Your Leather To Stretch
The more you wear your leather goods, the more stretch they will experience. Leather of any form will stretch provided they experience the body heat. The feet warms up the leather shoes while the body warms up the leather jacket. Because of the heat on the body or feet, the leather jacket will always stretch.
The leather jacket I have on will experience even more stretch with continuos use/wear, it will become dense and will conform to my body.
You will also notice that no matter how solid a leather handbag is, with continuos use, it will become dense not necessarily stretch. See an image of my old bag below…….
It is very important not to leave your leather goods close to any kinds of heat or radiation system. To learn more about caring for your leather goods, check here
In conclusion, when choosing your leather jacket, ensure to choose one that fit properly so when they stretch, they don’t become too big.
Thank you so much for stopping by today. I am always very happy to see you stop by. WIshing you a fantastic day today.
