I know there is this notion that a monochromatic look is only black and white. In fact, I can promise you that if you key in monochrome into Google, a lot of images that is black and white will be fed to you. While monochrome can be said to be a minimal look featuring black and white, it can also mean a single colour palette, hence the word “mono” which means SINGLE or a look with limited colours and hues.
5 Ways to Style Monochrome
By now, most of you would have known that I love very minimal fashion and style. No crazy feathers or furs,, no over the top accent or accessories. I love polished and clean lines. This is me, the end!
Monochrome can be a single colour palette styled in different ways. It could be trouser-suit, it be could be skirt-suit and it could be short and crop top. If is one single file of colour from head to toe, whether all Black or all Mustard, it is monochrome.
Look One :: Green Sequin
This is a Palazzo pants styled with sequin light jumper. This look reminds me of Tina Turner with the hair and sequin. This look is perfect for dinner or for dance.
I was wearing: Zara Palazzo Pants | H&M Sequin jumper | Zara Heels
Look Two :: All White Monochrome
I think I may have been accused of wearing white too much too many times. I am guilty as charged, I agree. Wearing an all white ensemble is the best way to wear monochrome. Not only does it make you look fresh, clean, crisp and polished, it makes you look really expensive. If you are not a monochrome wearer, start out with white. You would love it.
I was wearing Zara Trousers & Blazer | H&M Trend Cut Out Pants | Christian Louboutin Cornielle 100mm Heels
Look Three :: Older Girl Glam
One would have thought wearing trouser suit is dated. Well, it is not. More than ever before, fashion keeps going back and forth like yoyo. These days modern women wear trouser suit and they rock it really well. This monochromatic look has that older girl vibe with a lot of modern twist – the hair, the belt, the sandals, the sunglasses and the styling in general. It is one of my favourite ever. Unplanned on the day but I love it.
I was wearing: Joseph Trousers | Gucci Belt & Heels | Sophie Hulme Purse | Zara Blazer & Waist Coat
Look Four :: Sheer Black & White
It couldn’t get more minimal than this. For this look, I paired a sheer maxi with sheer crop top. Although I sheer, if I can say so myself, it is all so tasteful too. A perfect look for a Summer day at the races.
I was wearing: H&M Trend Skirt | Topshop Blouse | Zara Heels | H&M Hat
Look Five ::: Work Style
This is an easy breezy work wear. It is clean, polished and perfect for just every woman. If you don’t like heels, swap heels for flats and you are good to go.
I was wearing: Joseph Trouser | Zara Shirt | Christian Louboutin Pigalle Plato Heels | Sophie Hulme Bag
And those are some of my favourite ways to style monochrome. I do hope you found inspiration from all the look. Now, tell me, what is your favourite look of all my picks and why? Please let me know in the comments below. And do have fun styling your own look.
Much Love, Mojisola
