Other than lots of love and laughter, interior is what makes a house a home. So, I got this lamp yesterday and was inspired to share a little bit of interior decoration buying tips with you. But first, it is almost certain that many people who love and shop fashion are most likely to like homewares and interiors. I love interior as much as I love fashion. Although I haven’t shared my interior adventures with you, I have dabbled into it severally picking out customized fabrics for sofas, beddings, and home accessories in general for different homes.
Since Christmas is just around the corner, this Christmas season, I want a cosy family time with lots of movies hopefully. So, I went shopping for a floor lamp. I currently have one standing lamp and a table one, both elegant in my living space but I needed another one with just one bulb to light up a specific area of my living space. Got into the store, saw this “vintage” looking lamp which they called “Leanne Antique Lamp” and as soon as I saw it, I knew that was it. Checked the price, it was within budget but thought to leave it till I shop around.
So, I went to another store, saw the same lamp for almost triple the price. So, I ran back to the former store. On getting there, there was one with Chrome finish and the other with Rustic Finish. The one with Chrome finish was tagged cheaper than the one with Rustic finish.
So, I reached for the one with the Chrome finish, which was cheaper like I said. And because I had seen the price, I asked the Manager why the Chrome finish lamp was cheaper? He said, “that was an error BUT because you were here before and have seen the price, you would be paying the price you saw”. Just in case you don’t know, ideally when you go into a store, the price you see on display is what you should pay for the product…..
So, that was how I bought the lamp – really nice and perfect for the space I needed it for. It reminds me of the old school LANTERN we used back in the day. Do you think so too and do you know those old school lantern?
Tips that Would Help You Pick Up the Best Interior for Your Home & Save Money While at it
Measure Your Space: Measure your space before you buy pieces for your home decoration. This is important so your pieces can fit seamlessly and looking all LUSH and expensive. Buying something too big for a space may look tacky in your space.
Shop Around: You just may get a discount in other stores. Like I said, I went to check if I would see other offerings in other stores and I ended up seeing this same lamp for more than twice the price. It may just be a case of the other store buying lesser merchandise and for them to maximise their profit because they would have paid more on lesser merchandise, they must have put their mark up higher than the other store. It could also be other factors like paying for head count or cost of rentage etc. So, to buy less, be sure to shop around.
Magazines / Catalogues to the Rescue: When shopping, consult homeware magazines or catalogues for inspiration or ideas. Every season, homewares stores publish new magazines and catalogs displaying bits and pieces they have in store and how you can mix and match them or style them. This gives you ideas for your home. Pinterest is also very good for ideas for your home
Colour Scheme: Have a colour scheme in mind, it helps tie the look of your interior together. The colour wheel is a good way to match colours, it show you pictorially what colours blend together.
Style & Feel: What style and feel do you want your home to have – contemporary / modern, old school/antique or both? What vibe do you want your home to have? Those are the kinds of pieces you should buy. So, if you want modern looking home, buy contemporary pieces and if you want antique or classic looking home, go for those kinds of pieces. I love a mix of modern and old school, so I mix both and I love it.
Make a Budget: Budgeting is very important when picking pieces for your home. For example, the first thing that came to mind for me when I saw the lamp aside how gorgeous it looked was the price. If that one exceeded budget, I am more than confident that I would find another one. There is always an option for your budget, so, don’t go out of your way.
If You Are Not Sure of Anything: There is nothing as disappointing as buying something you do not like especially if you can’t send it back. So, if you are not sure but still want to buy the piece, read the terms and conditions and be sure you are happy with the return and refund policy before you pay for the product(s).
Another option is to ask if the sales associate can keep the piece on hold for you. In this case, they may ask you to pay a deposit but be sure it is refundable, just incase you don’t want the item anymore. A lot ot times, sale items cannot be placed on hold and they are most likely not to be refunded but exchanged.
