I have had my fair share of bumps after shaving. I have tried shaving with shaving cream and I have tried shaving with razors too, after trying both on numerous occasions, I have come to conclusion that razor is best for me. Why? I will tell you all about it in this post and how to prevent bumps after shaving.
Of course there are different ways of shaving especially the hidden part of the body like the genital areas. You can shave by waxing, with razor and you can shave with shaving cream. For me personally, I have tried shaving cream formulated for ladies but unfortunately, it has cause more harm than good to me.
I discovered that shaving with cream gives me burn or burning sensation after I finish shaving and it has also left my under arm area and bikini line DARKER. That sucks but I am not the one who would shy away from what I like because of what I don’t like. I embrace all the not so good too. I encourage you to do the same. Embrace your body and the bits you don’t like too. See how shaving cream has caused my under arm area to be dark…….
It isn’t as bad but it was caused by using shaving cream to shave. Now I use razor!
What Kind of Razor Do I Use?
Since I figured that shaving cream makes my underarm area dark and gives me burning sensation, I now use razor. I use a razor with a minimum of 3 blades. This prevents me from dragging the razor too much on my skin and it gives me clean shave on my under arm, bikini line and genital area and my legs. I must specify that I use a brand new razor every time I shave. In simple words, I use and dispose after every use. If I have to use pressure on the razor, I grab a brand new one.
How Do I Shave Facial Hair?
I do not have a lot of facial hair but I have a little bit that pops up from time to time on the jaw. For the little hairs on my face, I pluck them out with tweezers. I have tried waxing before, it is equally good and didn’t give me any side effects when I tried it. I tweeze hair in the direction of its growth, it is just like tweezing the brows. I do not use tweezers on any other part of my body, that may be too much pressure and stress.
2 EASY WAYS To Prevent Bumps After Shaving
Using razor to shave is a personal preference and what works for me because I have paid attention to my skin to see what works. I encourage you to pay attention to your skin and see what works for you because we all have different bodies.
So whether you decide to shave with a razor or use shaving cream, the 2 simple ways to prevent bumps after shaving will help………
1, Rinse With Cold Water After Shaving
I do know that for people who live in a country where it is cold, it is hard to use cold water on your skin but you just have to try. Why? Cold water causes your pores to close which prevent irritation and the growth of bumps while hot or warm water will cause irritation and then trigger the appearance of rash and bumps.
2, Moisturise
Adding moisture to the skin after rinsing with cold water will cool down the skin and will also make the skin hydrated which will prevent itching that can cause irritation of the skin and then the appearance of bumps.
The Easy Steps To Shave (with Razor)
Like I said, I now use razor and have been doing so since 2011 since I figured cream was darkening my skin. To shave effectively with razor, I follow these simple steps……
Wet the skin, apply moisture rich soap or body wash (I use dettol soap), leave skin to soften a little and then shave gently (no forceful dragging or pulling). After shaving I gently rinse / wash with cold water and then moisturise. I use my organics moisturizer or Palmers cocoa butter.
Since I have been following those steps, I have never had bumps and my skin is not darkening any longer. Please pay attention to what works for you.
Shaving For Men
As you all know, I am very married and I have been for 13 years now. My husband also does not shave with cream anymore. He used to use Gillette shaving cream. Although shaving with cream gives him a very smooth shave but after about 3 days, he begins to have bumps even after washing with cold water and wearing after shave. We also noticed his beard area has become darker than the rest of his face(some people say this happens with age but I do not have any scientific back up for this; I am a scientist and I like to work with facts)So now, he shaves every second day with clippers(not a blunt one) then gently rinse / wash with cold water and then use an after shave. We tried a couple of after shave creams that didn’t work but now, he uses the Gucci by Gucci after shave. Although fragranced, it works magic for him and no more bumps or facial darkness. Another one he has tried and he is happy about is the Joop after shave. I get this in the Christmas gift set or on duty free when I travel.
And Because our bodies differ and would react to different treatments or regimen in different ways, it is best to try out a few ways and see what works. Once you find what works, stick with it!
That is how I shave my under arm, genital area and legs and how to prevent bumps after shaving no matter the method you use. I do hope you learnt a thing or two in the post. Please share your thoughts with me in the comments below. Would love to learn from you too.
I want to thank you so much for stopping by today. I am always so happy to see you stop by. Wishing you an amazing day that is bump free.
Much Love, Mojisola

I am happy with the topics you tackle Moji, thank you. I always have rashes under my arm after using cream. Will try this method, hopefully it works.
Can you do a post on lightening the underarm. That will be nice. Thanks in advance.
Thank you so much Chi. Appreciate your time and feedback. Cheers.
Thanks for sharing this informative post Moji..
Good tips. I dislike razor and thank goodness the cream works perfectly for me. I used razor recently after over 10 years and I developed bumps around my bikini area. Thank God the bumps disappeared later but bump scars from years ago still remains. Now you know why I stay away from razors. Lol!
I totally understand and that is why it is important not to force what works for me on my dear readers; hence the reason why I suggested to always see what works for them. Happy to know you found what works. Having said that, it is the same method to prevent rashes and bumps; use cold water before and after shaving and moisturise
Can you do a post on how to lighten and get rid of bump scars from razor around the bikini area? If there is a solution to this problem I will love you forever.
Hi Sade, thank you for the request, I can look into this. Hopefully very soon. Hope you are doing well. Do take care of you. cheers.
