Some of you may remember when I changed the look of the blog. If you like, call it re-branding of the blog. You saw how excited I was when I did because I had outgrown what “we” had before. Little did I know that re-designing the blog was one thing and maintenance of it was another. As a creative (very creative actually), I love changes, I love to try out new things and if you like I love things to look a certain way, it is this creative mind of mine that makes me want to explore new things….
Today on the blog, I want to share how your creativity can kill your fear. Now let’s do this:
When I was going to re-do the blog, I announced on Facebook that I was looking for a web designer. Facebook friends who owned businesses came to my rescue and they gave me links to many website designers. I decided to go with a particular company based in the UK. Coincidentally, I was in England at the time, I rang them and we kick started my new blog design. After about 2-3 weeks, it was all done.
Anyone who knows me would know that I used to have phobia for technology. I was the girl who would not switch from flip phone to fancy hi-tech phones. I just hated to deal with learning how to use a new phone. However, I am not the same girl anymore.
So, I decided to leave the maintenance of the blog to the website designer so I could focus on creating great contents for you, my dear readers. Things soon went south when I would email them about one thing or the other and they may not reply until after 3 days, sometimes 4 days and some times I week. I couldn’t deal with it anymore.
Out of fear, I was like, if I decided to take on maintenance of the blog, if something goes wrong, what will I do because I am not so “techy”?. I spoke to the head of the business and they “came up” with things like: “if the site breaks down, you may not be able to fix it”, “if anythings goes wrong, you may not be able to cope” and so on and on….
I decide to take chances. I wrote to them and said, I will be taking ownership of the maintenance of the site. I went to my back panel with my hosting company and took them off as “admin” on the site. I am now the admin of the site and all the maintenance would be done by me.
Now that I was alone on the site maintenance, I had to be creative and analytic. I started exploring with different features on the blog, I would test things out, try things out and to cut the long tale short, things started to falling into place. I had a major challenge with the site around Christmas time, it was amazing that I didn’t have to call a professional, although, challenging, I figured it out myself. I have since done, redone, updated, recreated, redesigned and done more on the blog, by myself…..I remember someone asking me that they came to the site and they saw some changes, I was quick to tell them, I did it
Today, I want to share a few TIPS with you on how your creativity can kill your fear….As you can see, I have used myself as an example. Here are some things you should do when you think YOU CAN’T
Creativity
The first thing to know about anything is that the more you do anything, the better you would be at it. If you have ever thought of doing something and fear is taking it’s toll on you, you must learn to go for it and use creativity and resourcefulness to come up with solution.
As far as the site goes, I spent weeks after weeks trying things out and to my surprise, these things are not rocket science. The more I tried it, the more I figured it out. I did it own my terms and at my pace but I made sure to continue doing it. Now, give me any site, I will fix it or figure it out. I have to say that my decision to be admin on this site has saved me money. Site maintenance starts from as little as £25 – £50 up to £100s of pounds.
So, don’t ever think you can’t do anything, instead be creative and dive in to do it. Yes, you can do it.
Give it Time
I know we all love to get things done and get it done now. Trust me, patience is a virtue we all must have. Learning or mastering anything takes time. Let’s use a child as an example, the day they start walking, they fall and then rise again, they then fall and rise again and on and on. After a while, you would notice that they stop wobbling and then starting walking well and even running.
The process to learn to walk may be wobbly, but give it time. Before you know it, you will start running.
Ask Questions
I have been blessed with phenomenal people in my life, both offline and online. Although, I hate to be the one to send messages to professionals asking for their service for free, I have learnt to ask questions and if there is anything I can’t handle, if need be, I outsource it or pay for it.
So, every time there was anything on the site I couldn’t deal with, I ask someone I think may help. In other areas of life as well, if there is anything I can’t handle, I ask questions. Asking questions or asking for help doesn’t take anything away from you, in fact, it helps you get unstuck from any kinds or rut, be it the rut of debt or the rut of technology.
Learn to ASK questions and learn to ask for help. Asking questions be it from a Friend or from a Coach gives you clarity.
Trust Your Own Instinct
There is God inside of all of us. Yes, there is! The God inside of us speaks and if we would truly listen, we would hear God. That voice comes so subtle and calm. It gives us a go ahead. One of the things I have also learnt to do is to trust my instinct. Even on the journey of maintaining this site myself, I have had to trust my own instinct. If I am working on any thing too technical, weather it involves a code or something more techie, I try it out and test run it before I hit “publish”, and guess what? I have been able to get by really fine.
So, you must learn to trust your own instinct and go for it. Be careful but trust your instinct. In the quietude of your heart, you hear God. So, listen to that voice inside of you and do what it says.
You Must Learn to Take Decisions
You know I said that every time I wrote to my “site maintenance team”, they may not come back to me until whenever they have the time. That to me was a deal breaker. If you say, you respond to emails within 24 hours but you don’t keep to that promise, you are not rendering good cusotmer service. When waiting was the norm whenever I sent them a mail, I couldn’t deal with it anymore and so I made the decision to be the admin on my own site. It was the best decision I ever took. I was able to do things my way and on my terms too. Really good feeling. Most importantly, I overcame my fear of dealing with techie things and I have learnt a lot, now I help other people deal with techie issues they may be having on their site and can build a site from start to finish – this was a skill I acquired MYSELF. Yes, Myself!
So, you must learn to take the right decisions. It is a good skill to have. Take it easy but take bold decisions that would help move your forward….
Every Trial is a Chance to Grow
When I made the video, challenges mean growth, I made it to encourage you on how you can grow when you have challenges. Every time I sent an email to my “site maintenance team” and they won’t return to me on time, I found it really challenging and that to me woke up the gentle technology giant inside of me to grow. I used that opportunity to learn something new. Guess what, nobody can take this skill away from me. Nobody!
So, you must learn to use every set back to step up. Find a way to grow through your challenges. Recognise that challenges mean growth and then grow….

My friends, those are some of my creativity kills fear tips. We all must learn to be bold in being creative and take charge of our lives, goals and destiny. We all must confidently walk away or stay away from anything that may be pulling us back, wasting our time or resources. We all must be our own cheerleader and encourage ourselves to learn something new. We all must learn to take the bull by the horn and drag it to the destination we want it to go. We all must learn to use challenges to step up and thrive so our God can be glorified through us. So, believe me when I say, creativity kills fear. It does. Don’t stay down when challenges come, use creativity to kill your fear…..

Yes yes yes!!
Well said babe! I’m always looking for a new theme or a new creative (yet minimal) way to emphasize the photos on my blog and as you said, these things take time.

Great tips Moji! Your tips are so on point.
You and I share the same experience to an extent and have similar traits too. I have always believed myself to not be a tech person even though I have an “I can do all” attitude. I also ran into issues where I had to maintain my site and figure things out. Not easy at all because it can be frustrating especially if you are spending hours and days to fix or create something you know should be very easy to do.
My blog crashed sometimes last year and I was forced to re design it. I spend $800 because I needed custom made features. Then the guy got greedy so I cut him off and took over. It was the best decision ever. Now I am a guru at working on my blog and I have met people that have also opened my eyes to the other aspect of things and can figure out how to write codes, add codes, and fix broken codes.
Blogging is hard. It is not just about pretty clothes and shopping. This side of it is hard!
That is awesome that you took over.
Sometimes, it is best to “dive into the pool” and swim. It gets better…
Yes, blogging is NO JOKE.
Thanks for reading.
