When I first moved to this beautiful country that is always so cold a.k.a Ireland, I struggled with the weather, especially the colder months. When it gets colder, I would wear a jacket but would still feel so cold. At the time, my prayer was to get so rich that I do not have to work or have any reason to go anywhere. I just wanted to stay at home to keep warm. However, we all know that life does not work like that .It was my struggle that brought about my way the art of layering.
What is Layering?
Layering is simply a way of wrapping up the body to help it retain warmth or the body heat. A process of wearing layers of clothing to keep the body nice and warm.
The layers of clothes could be from very light weight, to medium weight and then to heavy weight like a jacket or outer wear.
Let’s have a look at the picture below……..
The picture above shows a denim with a jumper and then a jacket and gloves to keep the fingers warm. It is a good combination right?
Yes it is, but for a weather that is really cold or in the peak winter, that look is not enough especially if you have a lot of walking around to do or going/hopping from bus to train to reach your destination.
Let’s see how to layer up to keep cold away….
I started the layering with a camisole, then a high neck blouse or turtle neck and then the jumper and finally the jacket. With this kind of layers on, your body would retain warmth. Your chest area will feel warm and chest pain caused by cold will be kept at bay. You can take the jacket and jumper off if you feel too warm. It is better to feel warm than to be cold and then fall sick. On the lower part of the body, I have a skinny denim and then ankle boots. Obviously the boots should be worn with socks to prevent smelly feet.
When you wear skinny denim or any kinds of clothing very close to the skin, your body retains warmth better. The clothes tend to hug your body. One chunky jumper won’t keep you as warm as layering would. So ensure to layer up to keep the doctor away…..
There are so many other ways to keep warm in the colder months, this is one of them. So, tell me, how do you like to keep nice and warm? Please do share with us in the comments below. Hi Moji,
Exactly what I do; serious layering?. The weather ain’t smiling.
Layering is the way to go, I agree with you Vyckye. Good to see you.
Mojisola.
Love the browns here! And I am the worst at layering (despite growing up somewhere very cold). I am only good at it if I am planning to be outside for a long period of time!
Love the brown too. Thanks for reading Sarah. Have a great weekend.
