Recently, I listened to J Lo (Jennifer Lopez ) in an interview on good morning Britain where she talked about her insecurities of been judged about her voice for so many years and how she was able to overcome the insecurities.
Who would have thought J Lo feels in secured about anything. A “sexy Latina” who has made the American dream ! Talk about a super star judge on American Idol and so many pointers on her CV.
Listening to that made me wonder if there is anyone who doesn’t have insecurity issues about their body?
The truth is there will always be a part of your body you may not necessarily like. Does that now mean you should chop them off or go under the knife to correct them. Going under the knife is a topic for another day.
HOW NOT TO FEEL IN SECURED
You may have read my article a long time ago where I talked growing up with strict rules of not wearing skimpy clothes. I am thankful for parents who taught us such values. And NO, I am not turning rebellious neither I’m I advocating nudity.
I am saying if there is ANY part of your body, you do not like, here are some of the things you could do
1, RECOGNISE that bit is a part of your body and you can’t change it. You may have legs that are not necessarily straight or “K legs” for example. You can’t change that, can you ?
Allow me take you to church. God made us in his own image. What this means is that every thing good created is good, beautiful and looks like God. Whether you like it or not, you look like God.
2, EMBRACE IT : Once you recognise that bit. You look yourself in the mirror and see the image you want to see. Tell your self: I am beautiful, I am enough and I am worth it. Continue to tell your self the same thing each time you pass by a mirror. Doing that, you will change your mindset from body insecurities to embracing who you really are.
I highly recommend a full length mirror to every one.
3, DRESS IT : Now is the time to flatter your body to accentuate features you like. For the bits you are not happy with, don’t draw any attention to them. The best way to deal with insecurity however is to show off that bit. YES, once you do it once, you are free about the insecurities surrounding it. Do it again and you won’t be bothered by it ever again.
For example, if you have very chubby arms and you love to wear sleeveless. Wear sleeveless and feel like nobody else is looking at you. Feel confident wearing it. Don’t ask anyone if they think you are okay and don’t look like you are uncomfortable.
Use this interview trick. If you go for an interview and you think the interview is not going great. Don’t let your interviewer know. Keep smiling and keep answering the bits and questions you know and smile till you are done. Shake your interviewer firmly when leaving and hope that you will get the job. It is called confidence. You need confidence to embrace your body.
4, REMEMBER your good works : remind your self of all that you have accomplished. See the positives only. For e.g, see things like ; even though I am not a size zero, I have a husband/partner who loves me or I have children who love me or I have my degree from Harvard and now work in so and so. Remind your self of your good works. Remind your self that you are good enough. The ability of other people to see your worth is not your business. Let them deal with it.
However, if you feel like there is something you still want to achieve, go for it. You can do it.
OTHER THINGS TO DO
If you feel like there is a bit you do not like. You can also determine to change it. For example, if you are over weight and your desire is to loose weight. Go for it and be sure to achieve the look you want to achieve for your self. Be sure you are doing it for you and not what the society dictates. Be sure to put your health first, look is secondary.
Also remember that weight lose is a journey so be PATIENT.
LEG FOR DAYS
This heading came about because of my own self. My legs from my waist is about 46inches. My legs are longer than my trunk. That is good, I am not complaining.
Society says one thing today and the next day, they are saying another. I used to be very shy about my legs because I feel like they are too thin and too long. However, I make my husband the happiest man on earth when I wear anything short. This I do very much at home.
So why don’t you do it outside of the home, you would ask ?
Well, it comes down to insecurities and what would people think or say. This brings me to a little word of encouragement I will like to share with you…..
No matter what you do or say, there will always be someone out there who will not like what you say or what you do or even what you look like. There will always be some one out there who will not just like you for no reason. Maybe because they think you have it all going on for you or you have it all together. Some forget that, it is your strength and determination that is leading and cheering you on.
I would say, do what makes you happy and do it all the time without feeling sorry for it.
WHAT HAVE I COME UP WITH
I have embraced who I am. I now show the bit I think I do not like. Unknown to me, a lot of people actually want what I have. They do. And same is applicable to you. A lot of people actually want what you have. So be happy with you and be who and what you want to be with who you are.
Here on the blog, I came up with some signature poses where by I stand the same way or the one I walk across to show off my long legs.
They are my legs after all. Since I can’t change them, I can embrace them. You should embrace your body no matter what.
I have also figured that paring my looks with tights gives them a formal appeal and adds an older girl vibe to my look. I like that too. I do that for work style like I did here
I highly recommend to you to be confident in your own skin and do what ever makes you happy. Love your self no matter what. Never ever let any one bring you down. You are beautiful no matter what they say, words can’t bring you down…..Christina Auguilera.

Isn’t it unbelievable that not just J.Lo but some of the most beautiful we out there have the same insecurities the everyday girl has? Proof that we’re all human, we all have mirrors and we all have a very judgmental eye when we look in the mirror. I don’t know if one can ever be completely secure with what they see but accepting & working with our flaws is the best remedy. Great post!
